(PRWEB) June 14, 2010 — Not your typical health book, the Multiple Sclerosis Manifesto: Action to Take, Principles to Live By, authored by Julie Stachowiak, PhD, introduces the world to a new, compelling, authentic voice on the topic of multiple sclerosis. Julie has the audacity to say that while living with a chronic disease is definitely no fun, positive action and being accountable to yourself can make the journey a lot easier and even bring you clarity, focus and strength. In the Multiple Sclerosis Manifesto Julie gives us all a call to self-help, self-reliance, and political action.

Demos Health is proud to announce that the Multiple Sclerosis Manifesto won the Gold Award in the category of Health from ForeWord Reviews’ Book of the Year Awards for 2010. We are proud of Julie’s accomplishments and proud to be associated with an award of this caliber.

ForeWord Reviews’ Book of the Year Awards were established to bring increased attention to librarians and booksellers of the literary and graphic achievements of independent publishers and their authors. ForeWord is the only review trade journal devoted exclusively to books from independent houses.

Credentials: Julie Stachowiak, PhD is the About.com Guide to multiple sclerosis. As an epidemiologist who is also a person living with MS, Julie has an in-depth understanding about the scientific developments around MS and the personal side of living with a chronic illness. She has been called “the best MS writer on the web.” In 1993 she co-founded one of the first non-governmental AIDS/HIV organizations in Russia. AIDS infoshare has grown to be the most influential non-governmental organization dealing with the HIV epidemic in Russia. Julie left this organization when she was diagnosed with MS in 2004. Her work with the AIDS community informed her embrace of her own disease and her political stance on living with a chronic condition.
