Learn How to Practice Good Health Habits with New Xulon Book
Longwood, FL (Vocus) June 25, 2010 — After having studied various forms of medicine and healing therapy for more than 68 years, author R.W. Noble, MD, wanted to pass along his information to others. In his new title, The Science/Scripture Connection and Healthways (http://xulonpress.com/bookstore/bookdetail.php?PB_ISBN=9781609572303&HC_ISBN=) ($15.99, paperback, 978-1-60957-230-3), he teaches readers how to build a healthy temple (body) as God commands. This book contains practical and necessary ways to create a healthy body through both traditional and integrative therapies that have been proven over 45 years of use, and it proves for probably the first time how certain scientific factors agree directly with certain Scriptures.
“As Christians, our bodies are not are own and God expects us to learn and practice good health habits,” he says. “The Bible, in a way, can be used as a textbook in advising us how to control our thoughts and emotions, which will lead to a much healthier immune system and greatly reduce or prevent many illnesses.”
This knowledge, Noble explains, was gained both by having a Christian background and through his research into Psychoneuroimmunology, which focuses on the relationship between psychological processes and the nervous and immune systems. It is his hope that this book will resonate with readers as they realize and enjoy the additional health advantages made possible by combining both science and biblical Scripture.
Dr. Noble has practiced medicine for 45 years. He is a graduate of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. He will soon be 84 years of age.
Xulon Press (http://www.xulonpress.com), a division of Salem Communications, is the world’s largest Christian publisher, with more than 7,300 titles published to date. Author shares the sincere story of her all-consuming ordeal and inspiring recovery
Latham, NY (Vocus) June 12, 2010 — Bookshelves are cramming with books about people who have come back from the gulf of addictions, which most of the time inspire readers. Still, readers have yet to hear of someone with an unbelievable kind of addiction. In author Jill Peck Vona’s new book Addicted to Cold Water, she boldly shares her tormented life, but strong will to live.
Addicted to Cold Water is more than a story of survival and recovery—it is a story of a miracle. The miracle is the power of persistence and love. The ordinary things in life afflict some people. Too many cocktails become the disease of alcoholism. Drugs overpower moral judgment. Food becomes an obsession. In this book, readers will learn of the all-consuming ordeal of the author in being comfortable in her own skin. Here, she describes an addiction to cold water that most people could never imagine. And yet, her step by step eloquence about her dive into addiction makes an old story fresh. The description of the terror and agony is moving and compelling. Intertwined in this story of determination is a love story between the author and her husband, Paul. Readers will share their unequivocal understanding of each other and sense that they have lived their lives together for the joy of each other.
“Addicted to Cold Water is Jill’s brutally honest story of her fall into addiction and obsession and how—through courage and a sincere love of life and the undying love and patience of her husband, Paul—drags herself out of the depths of her disease to live a normal life. As a fellow addict, I find her book to be another inspiration to continue my own recovery.” – Richard Markes, RN, New York
This book is a must-read for anyone who needs to understand whatever evil that plagues them—for the perspective and the hope for transformation that it gives. Read the rest of this entry »

Good books need good marketing strategies. Writing a good book is not the end of the line for an author. Unless an author has the support of a team of marketers, he will have to involve himself in all the activities of marketing to sell the book, in addition to writing it. Often books that are well written go unnoticed, if they have not been marketed successfully. The successful author often has to take a very active role in promoting his books. Marketing not only involves letting people know about your book, but also getting them to want to buy the book. Listed below are a few strategies that various authors use and benefit from, for marketing their books.
Use Bookstores and Libraries: It is a very basic idea to head down to a local bookstore and request them to stock your book. You could even ask them if you could sign a few books at the store. If possible offer them discounts. The same policy can be followed at libraries. You may even give away a few books free to the libraries.
Online Marketing: You could use the latest technology, Internet, to market your book. The best option is to design a website of your own that will be a part of your online marketing strategy. Your online marketing strategy can include writing an article or book excerpt in content article directories, online discussion on the topic of your book, various quizzes for which you could keep your books as gifts, polls, volunteer for online interviews, and the most important – request online reviews. Many people and bloggers would be interested to express their opinion about your book. Online newsletters are also good tools to create awareness about your book.
Communities on the Net: You can join online communities and groups like Yahoo, MSN and Author’s Den, where you would find like-minded people. You should make your presence felt in such community discussions so that others would take interest in your books. Once you post your say, do not forget your signature. You could also identify few bloggers on the Internet interested in your subject. Send them your book as a gift. If they like it they may even mention them in their blogs. You may even request them to blog about the book.
Use press releases: Research your market. You could design a press release and send it to editors of various newspapers and magazines.
Use Flyers: You can have flyers distributed at locations such as libraries, bookshops, conventions etc.
Use radio and TV: Radio interviews are an important part of media strategy. They allow you to promote your book to millions of listeners and viewers across the country. TV can also provide you with good exposure. You only need to be presentable and make an impact on the mind of the readers in the short span of time that you get.
There are many more strategies that you may follow like selling at seminars, conferences, getting the editors to review your books, conducting your own workshop or seminar and so on.
Every writer has to build up his own marketing strategy. Personal involvement in marketing strategy is a major factor to push sales.

Great Ways To Promote Your Self Published Book
Most people get foxed while finding ways of going about trying to promote their self-published work. It becomes an even more difficult task when you don’t have a publisher. When you give the responsibility to your publisher, you really don’t have much to do, except sign a few copies and get famous fast.
The only sad part is that you may get ripped off and won’t even know it. The proceeds of your hard work should be entirely yours, and no one else’s. Once the book is ready for sale, promotion becomes your prerogative and finding new ways to do so is a challenge. It is a good idea to start speaking about your book much in advance of releasing it, so you kind of prepare a pathway for smooth sale-ing.
One of the most recent and best devices is the Internet. It is very resourceful and helpful in any kind of sales or promotion. It is boon to people who need it for promoting any kind of business or for selling their self-published book.
You could start by formatting a cover letter, with a summary or brief of your book. Attach the same and send it to group email IDs of friends and family and other relatives – maybe other book groups that your familiar with too. Make your contact details very clear, and also if you are offering any discounts, price of the book and shipping charges if any.
End it with a request for them to pass the information on to people they come in contact with. This way you could actually create a network for the word to spread and before you know it, you could have your sales going up pretty well.
Also, become members of some blog sites or booker sites for a nominal fee, where you could advertise your book. There is no harm in spending a little money, when you could make much more in return.
Approach your family members and make sure wherever they go, they would be walking advertisements, free of charge for you. For example, your daughter who goes to college or is a member of a social group, your wife who could be a part of a bridge group at the club, could be the most reliable people to promote your work.
When you visit the mall, go as a family or a group of friends, so you can hand out flyers, to people there and greet them with a smile. If possible pay for a little table and set up a stall for yourself where people could come up to you and ask you about your book. This could definitely help you in promoting your book in public.
Contact certain broadcasters, and issue a press release which may not cost you much, but could be another good way of getting people to know your book. Where you need to spend a little, do so!

With non-fiction, the author is writing about a factual subject. This could be in the form of an essay, documentary, history, biography or even a textbook. Regardless of the form, it is assumed that the author is writing what they believe to be true at the time.
Think of it this way. People used to commonly believe the Earth was flat. This is what they read and what they were told. Even though we now know the Earth is not flat, those works that say it is are still non-fiction. At the time they were written they were believed to be true. So, if it a book about real people, places or things, it is non-fiction.
To get their information across to the reader, a non-fiction author should be clear and concise and write to their specific audience. Understanding the subject and the audience can make for an easy to read and entertaining work of non-fiction. It takes creativity and a thorough knowledge of the subject matter to create a non-fiction book.

Fiction
Fiction is any story that contains events that are not real, ones that are imagined and invented by the author. Most comic books are fiction, as are many mysteries, romance novels and works of science fiction. The stories can be fun and playful or serious and dark. In fiction, children can rule over adults and dogs can talk.
Fiction may also contain real elements that make it believable. The story might be the author’s invention, but the location or a historical event is a real one. Overall, it is still considered fiction, even with elements that are found in reality.
There are three main elements to works of fiction. Every work of fiction has character, plot and setting. Without these elements, there could not be an effective story. Even though it is not usually considered an element of fiction, the imagination and creativity of the author is crucial to a good story. A great author can draw you completely into their story and have you believe that everything in the story is possible – and something you never want to end.

A Changing Climate
Global warming is a vital topic for so many of us who truly care about the
condition of the planet we leave behind for our children, and the generations to
follow them. However, it’s an unfortunate reality that our primary resource is
news coverage of a shouting match between the political left and the political
right. That leaves the average person in the proverbial pickle concerning whom to
trust, and what to believe.
At the turn of the century, one couldn’t find much relief from the books that
lined our local bookstore shelves either. The best books were mirroring the
divide playing out on our televisions sets. For instance, Elizabeth Kolbert’s
wildly popular “Field Notes from a Catastrophe” intrigued us yet deviated little
from the left’s standard call to action. Likewise, Chris Horner’s “The
Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming” fascinated us, but in the end,
that industry-backed voice was too strong to ignore.
More recently, this has begun to change. It could be that the will of the
audience was finally registering with the publishing houses, or perhaps, it was
just the natural progression of the discourse. In retrospect, it may be former
House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s book, “A Contract with the Earth”, written
alongside author Terry L. Maple, that marked the beginning of the change.
A decade prior to that book, the conservative Gingrich had been one of the most
polarizing political figures in the entire world. Yet here he was calling other
conservatives to put aside the partisanship, and embrace the environmental
changes that we need. He had great success winning some people over, Edward O.
Wilson, a conservative biologist, being a notable example.
While the left has yet to have someone with Gingrich’s headline-grabbing power
come forth in this way, the movement is afoot nevertheless. The young
environmentalists Ted Nordhaus and Michael Shellenberger shook up the green
movement when they published the essay “The Death of Environmentalism”. Here were
two well-respected environmentalists calling out their own movement, essentially
saying that your rhetoric is undermining our efforts.
That essay became the basis for the best selling “Break Through: From the Death
of Environmentalism to the Politics of Possibility.” What readers of this book
and Gingrich’s book will find most intriguing is the core of sameness that exists
when one peels back the layers of differences.
